36. Celia - Receiving a breakthrough in the prayer language of tongues

Name: Celia
Date: 27 May 2007
Location: Sydney
Note: Celia is a Sunday School teacher at Destiny Covenant Church

I was among those who attended the Holy Spirit seminar at church by Joshua last Sunday, 27 May when he touched on the subject of praying in tongue. During the 5 minute break, I shared with Joshua my belief that I know I have been baptised in the Holy Spirit but still struggle to speak in tongues 'properly'. I have on occasion broke out in tongues with moans, groans and blabbering.

I told him I feel like I'm never going to go beyond that and I often wonder how others seem to be able to do that quite naturally. I also mentioned the fact that coming from an idolatrous religious background, the term 'Spirit' to me implied creepiness that could have held me back, although I have now accepted the Holy Spirit is from God.

Joshua advised me not to try or think too hard when I'm praying, but rather relax, enjoy the moment and allow the Holy Spirit to work from within me. I then went back to my seat for the rest of the session and at the end we all stood up to pray.

Initially, I could hear Joshua encouraging us to relax and let the Holy Spirit do His work in us. About a minute after, I began to blabber for a little while but then my mouth started to form words all on its own and suddenly I found myself pouring out effortlessly words that sounded like some native tribal language from out of Africa (with alot of k's)!

This is the first time I have ever uttered in proper formed words totally alien to me! and I mean I actually spoke it, I could feel myself mouthing and savouring every word. Even though I had no idea what Iwas saying, I just knew it was the Holy Spirit interceding for me.

Wow! When you least expect it, the impossible happens - it was so sudden! I had been teaching the children about the power of the Holy Spirit during the month and now I got to experience this breakthrough personally! God IS Powerful and He CAN do the impossible! Hallelujah!

Last night, 31st May, I broke again in tongues at prayer time after bible study, it came much more easily this time and Ps Paul laid hands on my head and Icould feel the heightened power of the Spirit working in me as we prayed together! Wow, what power! Hallelujah! God is Great!
