15. Florence - Miraculous healing after passing out blood for over 16 hours

One Sunday afternoon, at about 4pm, my wife Florence started passing out blood. As we had always been in the pink of health, we thought nothing of it. Perhaps it was just a bad diarrhoea. But something did seem unusual; Florence was suddenlly pale and weak.

At the interval of every 2-3 hours, she continued passing out blood. Then at 5am the next morning, we were conviced something was amiss and sent her to the emergency department of the Mt Alvernia hospital. The sleepy doctor said that it was probably diarrhoea and sent us home. We were not satisfied by his diagnosis.

When the problem continued, we sent Florence back to the hospital at 8am and this time, the doctor on duty was more alert. After his examination and when he was told that Florence had just been on a buisness trip to China, he diagnosed it to be dysentry. With a serious look, he explained it was a kind of flesh eating bacteria and arranged for Florence to be warded immediately. This was already 16 hours from the first incident.

We were stunned at the seriousness of the situation. Shocked at the thought that bacteria had been eating into her intestines over the last 16 hours. We were blaming ourselves for not being alert, and for the time lapse of 12 hours. What was the damage? How can this happen to us - we are healthy people? We were also angry with the first doctor for sending us home.

When we called our friends, one of them said that his father had the same symtoms and it turned out to be colon cancer! It didn't help listening to everyone with their theories. After all the frenzy within our hearts, we knew we had to come back to the cross for the answer. Everyone can have their say, but Jesus has the final say. In moments like this, no human can help us. Only Jesus can.

We started praying in the spirit. We started confessing that, "By the stripes of Jesus she was healed." We called forth all the Bible promises that we had deposited within us over the years. It wasnt the first time that we were confronted with a serious health situation. Many years ago, I was healed of a heart condition. We dug our heels in to battle in faith, and guarded our hearts with the peace of God.

Strangely, just a few days earlier, the Holy Spirit led Florence to confess health over her body for 3 days as she was listening to a message CD in the car. It was as if the Holy Spirit was preparing her for the battle of faith.

In the hospital, Sister Eunice came to pray with us. We also took holy communion with the family. Florence felt something within her body as we prayed. I brought CDs and DVDs on healing - to help Florence meditate and visualize on God's promises for her. I believe that the sitaution began to reverse in her body. The Spirit of life was at work to bring restoration.

The next day, Florence went for an endoscope test. In the natural, we would have expected the worse. In the spiritual, we knew that the price had been paid on the cross. We had a pleasant surprise when the results came out. The initial endoscope results showed only an inflamed Colon with one ulcer. What happened to the dysentry?

Her condition began to turn ariund so quickly that she was out of the hospital in 2 days. It was a sharp contrast to being warded in a wheel chair just 2 days earlier.

The biopsy test came out 3 days later. There was nothing malignant in the ulcer. No there was no colon cancer as my friend had suggested.

The verse that has been impressed upon our hearts in Romans 8:2 - The law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus has set me free from the law of sin and death.

In Romans 8:11 - But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to our mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.

Florence recovered very quickly. Within over a week, we continued with our holiday plans to Africa. We were enjoying the beauty of the Sahara desert. The battle was soon forgotten. But recently, when I read the papers about the man who died after he caught flesh eating bacteria from being scratched by a crab, I realized that I cannot take Florence's healing for granted. Without Jesus, the events could have been very different. So we give praise and glory to Jesus, our Healer.
